What to do in 3 days around Villers-le-Lac?

Day 1 — The must-see: the Doubs River and the waterfall

Morning: Start on foot from the Doubs basins or the Saut du Doubs parking area. Easy hike (2 to 2.5 hours round trip) along the border river. The trail is almost flat, making it perfect even with children (8–9 years old).
Afternoon: Viewpoints over the Saut du Doubs: the 27-meter waterfall is especially impressive in spring (snowmelt season). Return by guided boat tour (particularly enjoyable in autumn when the valley turns golden).

Day 2 — Watchmaking heritage and local culture

Morning – Morteau (5 minutes away): Visit the Watchmaking Museum at Château Pertusier. A great way to understand why the entire border region is closely tied to Switzerland.
Afternoon: Visit a Comté cheese dairy (production and tasting) or enjoy a gentle walk around Lake Chaillexon (beautiful in autumn with its reflections).
Late afternoon: Cross into Switzerland on foot or by car (Le Locle) just to experience the cross-border atmosphere.

Day 3 — Wild Jura landscapes

Morning: Excursion to Montbenoît Abbey (a true medieval setting). Discover the surprising “Republic of Saugeais.”
Afternoon: Panoramic hike: the Entreroches gorge or viewpoints at Meix-Musy / Roche du Prêtre (among the most beautiful landscapes in the Jura Mountains).
