Espace Glacialis

The High-Mountain Glacier Museum!

Discover the high-mountain glaciers!

How and how long did the glaciers form? What are they made of? Why are they so important? What is their lifespan?

Glaciers are both impressive and mysterious… Explore these ice giants! Espace Glacialis promises to answer all your questions.

Created in 2007 and awarded the Qualité Tourisme label since 2014, Espace Glacialis is an interpretive center where you can learn about the eternal snows of the Vanoise Glacier, their formation, and their environmental impact (and vice versa). This museum space is also a member of the EEDD network: Education for Environment and Sustainable Development.

Located in Champagny Le Haut, at the gateway to the Vanoise National Park, 200 m² of exhibitions immerse you in a frozen, impressive, and precious world. Espace Glacialis invites you to discover the mountains and their glaciers in a fun and interactive way, through guided tours, models, games, films, animations, and observation of majestic landscapes like La Grande Motte and La Grande Casse.

By the end of your visit, you’ll know all the secrets of these ice giants and their importance in the era of climate change—through the lenses of science, geology, and history. Explore, with family, friends, or colleagues, the essential relationship between humans and glaciers, and how it has evolved over time.

And if your visit to Espace Glacialis leaves you eager for more, head out to see real glaciers! Near the exhibition center, you’ll find the trail Discover the Glaciers of Champagny-en-Vanoise.

Enjoy your visit and happy hiking!
